I have seen the excellent Miyazaki movie “Howl’s Moving Castle” starring the intrepid Sophie, but I never realized that the film was based on a book. My daughter came home with it yesterday afternoon; her Granny bought it for her. Here she is this morning. This picture tells me all I need to know.

I bought this for my younger brother for his birthday. It looks like I may have made the right choice!
Yes!!! Great choice for your brother.
My husband and I love this book! Did you know there are also two loosely related sequels (Castle in the Sky and House of Many Ways, which incidentally I’m reading right now)?
Hi Molly,
I only know because someone told me on FB. So excited!

Diana Wynne Jones was a brilliant author. She’s written a couple dozen books for kids – all the ones I’ve read have been variations on wonderful, but I most strongly recommend the Chrestomanci series. She recommended starting with Charmed Life but I think most of them stand alone. Strong male and female characters, good and bad, in all her books, if I remember correctly.
How old was your daughter when she was reading this?
